It’s engaging
We’ve previously established that it’s extremely human. People are drawn to humanity; Why do we laugh? What makes comedy funny? Some form of human, familiar response. Why do we cry over a staged tragedy? How can we not get caught up and drawn in to this beauty? It’s important to have this kind of work grab a hold of audiences- not by shock tactics, not by the surprise, but by its sheer humanity; if we see this honesty in a performance, it will cause some form of reaction in us. It automatically causes a response, which leaves the door open to reflection. And who knows what can happen then? But the most important thing, is that it will cause people to stop, and think. I don’t know about you, but any work that does that for me is thrilling, healthy, and positive. I can’t not do something about it. I hope that this work does the same thing for our audiences. So, if you are looking for a reason to vote today, do it because it is engaging, and has a habit of causing people to reflect. Let’s engage in some voting to make this happen: http://pep.si/hDkj1N We’re Original
We mentioned earlier that this project is innovative. But more importantly, we commit to the arts conversations that we engage in. We have similar values to many Shakespeare companies, because we believe in approaching the text honestly, which can be difficult to do. (It’s nice to know that there are so many companies out there with that honesty, because when an actor places thoughts in the text that are not there, it gets freaking confusing. ) On the other, we are comprised of an extremely young company, still forming whatever it is our “acting chops” or “directing chops” are. We also want to use whatever tools we have to gain new perspective on the text- which, in the circumstances of the Shakespeare-On-The-Subway Project meant Viewpoints training. Who knows where this next project will take us? If all else fails, you won’t find another company with our name or logo. That logo was actually comprised of a photo of a friend’s mouth (with permission of course). Seriously. A human mouth. In our logo. So, if you are looking for a reason to vote today, do it because we are original AND innovative! And that makes for +15 reasoning that we are the best people for the job. +15 reasoning to vote too: http://pep.si/hDkj1N
It gives these actors
Workplace Insurance.
Workplace insurance is important. Technically, this will only apply if these wonderful artists are officially employed and are under contract for this project, so we want to do that too. So, if you are looking for a reason to vote today, do it so that our artists can get insurance! How can you not?: http://pep.si/hDkj1N
It’s innovative
Tell me the last time you saw Shakespeare outside of a stage setting. In a hospital. In a Senior’s Residence? What about the last time you saw theatre practitioners catering to those who cannot physically go to a theatre? We’re hitting this from all angles- first and foremost, it’s about our audience’s quality of life. Then, it’s about the art. Then it’s about trying new things. So on, and so forth. Et tu, voters? http://pep.si/hDkj1N
This will encourage
other arts groups and individuals to approach Hospitals and Seniors Residences
for work.
From my understanding- from what I have experienced, and researched thus far, it is difficult for Hospitals and Senior Residences to find entertainment, performances, or activities for patients and patrons. And this is a big deal. Without these programs, there is no reprieve from healing or transitional processes. There is no distraction from the constant focus on why the patients or patrons are there. So, there is a constant search for this kind of work. Something to ease healing processes, and improve a person’s quality of life. How do we go about it? In my mind, I break it down to one statement: See a need, fill a need. They need entertainment, possibly in the form of a performance, and we need- well,- to perform. We don’t want to walk into this blindly, though. We can’t. We have been doing our homework so that we can cater these performances to each individual audience member. In order to do this, we have looked to such brilliant performance and research bases as clown-doctoring. The great thing that I have learned about clown doctoring thus far is that they provide distraction and entertainment through being vulnerable with their patients. Patients therefore focus on the clown’s inability to perform a certain task, as opposed to his or her own struggles. Patients may even go so far as to help the clowns with what they are failing at, to put them at ease. Pretty amazing, huh? By proxy, they can also ease their own struggles. …Okay, so this isn’t terribly new to everyone. But I think that act of presenting a vulnerability to a patient is huge, and can ease the healing or transitional process a lot. If we can similarly present vulnerability through our work with the text, I think that we can create a similar sensation- By no means am I saying that we are the same as Clown Doctors. By no means could we ever replace the amazing things that they do. But we can certainly try something new, and provide a vulnerable experience, incorporating a new form of cultural stimulation for patients and senior residence members. So, if you are looking for a reason to vote today, do it because you will be creating job opportunities for emerging youth artists, while solving the issue of finding entertainment in hospitals and senior residences. You know you wanna: http://pep.si/hDkj1N ...And, of course, if you want to check out some amazing Clown-Doctor programs across Canada, check out some of these groups: Fools For Health http://web2.uwindsor.ca/fools_for_health/ Dr. Clown http://drclown.ca/index_en.php
When the going gets
tough, the tough make their own work
See what we did there? Clever. If you are looking for a reason to vote today, do it because we are making our own work! Yeah! http://pep.si/hDkj1N
This will encourage
other individuals/groups to make their own work
Did I mention how important this is? Let’s imagine the start to a career in the arts: Sitting. Waiting. … You get my point. I’m not saying that all actors have to make their own work to survive. I’m just saying it’s a pretty damn good idea for when you are looking for work. And it’s much better to have work than not in this field. So, if you are looking for a reason to vote today, do it because you will be teaching other emerging artists by a pretty effective example. You know you wanna: http://pep.si/hDkj1N
We come from a
diversity of educational bases
Some of us come from Colleges. Some of us come from Universities. Some of us come from a variety of acting classes. All of us come from different areas of study. All of us come together for the same reason. What does this mean? We have all come together to share what we know and start a conversation. So, if you are looking for a reason to vote today, do it because you will get a variety of perspectives that can be seen in the work we do. Why not? http://pep.si/hDkj1N This will contribute to arts events in benefit conversations in Ontario
It goes both ways. Just as benefit performances happen in arts conversations, art events happen in benefit conversations. It provides more opportunities for charities and fundraisers. And we need more of that. You know what to do: http://pep.si/hDkj1N |
