MEDIA ADVISORY:
JULIUS CAESAR PROJECT HITS 2014 TORONTO FRINGE
All-female, modern retelling of Julius Caesar tours women’s shelters and drop-ins around Toronto, starting with a showcase at the 2014 Fringe Festival.
TORONTO – This July, Shakespeare meets Orange Is The New Black, as the Spur-Of-The-Moment Shakespeare Collective (SOTMSC) sets a classic tale in a modern-day women’s prison. The inmates have found their new King--But not everyone is happy. Definitions of nobility and honour collide as tempers rise, and the women reclaim power over their home.
Featuring 2013 Fringe stars Jordi O’Dael and Jessica Harb (So I Hired A Contract Killer), Erin Eldershaw (A Midsummer Night’s Dream…A Puppet Epic!),Victoria Urquhart (Shakespeare, M.D.), Ale House Theatre’s Eva Barrie (Macbeth), Kaleidoscope Theatre’s Grace Gordon (The Tempest), and many more. At the helm of this production is none other than the Inspirato Festival’s 2012-2013 award-winning Taryn Jorgenson.
The show will be developed to suit both the fringe stage, and various women’s shelters and facilities across Toronto. The program itself will take place immediately following the fringe, in association with the Adelaide Resource Center for Women to provide creative programming for women's shelters and drop-ins across Toronto. The performance is a part of a larger workshop, inviting new members to begin a dialogue with their community and facility. Join the SOTMSC as they kick off their tour this summer.
