How? I hear you ask.
Like so: Gas, Go Transit, and Actors not being able to take time from their day jobs to do jobs that don't pay.
That's the other short version.
So, indiegogo does some awesome crowd fundraising. We update, people see our work more, and hence donate more. Exposure is a wonderful thing. And it helps with wonderful things like this.
Speaking of wonderful things, we provide 3 key items with Shakespeare's Briefs:
Relief
We do not pretend to be doctors, but we know that everybody needs a distraction. Especially when focusing on dealing with major life-changing processes. So, we give a little mental relief from the everyday that some patients and residents face.
Accessibility
There are some recreational therapy programs that are simply not accessible to all patients on a physical level. So, instead of not being able to go out to the theatre, we bring the theatre to patients, even in a private-room format (if the patients and staff so choose).
AND, of course, we wholeheartedly believe that this text was meant to be spoken, not just seen. Otherwise we lose all of the wonderful human surprises that the text has to offer. If you're not a theatre buff or classical theatre buff or shakespeare buff etc. When was the last time you HEARD shakespearean text? And I'm not talking about that "shakespeare got to get paid, son" shirt, although I really do want to add that to my wardrobe...
So, it's a double-whammy: Accessibility for patients to recreational programs, and classical text. What up.
Opportunity
Actors gotta act, and communities gotta be...well...communities. This gives an opportunity for the Arts & Culture and Health & Wellness sectors to co-mingle in a way that has never happened before. If emerging artists gotta emerge, they may as well do so while finding a way to lift up their community in the process. Let's create a cycle of benefits here, people! All for one, and one for all!
So, that's why we indiegogo. That's also why we Brief. hehe.
Stay tuned for other Collective Members' stories as we indiegogo!
And, of course, please donate to the wonderful cause here:
